Toowoomba Profile

Toowoomba is located approximately 128 kilometres west of Brisbane and is the gateway to the Darling Downs, one of Australia’s richest agricultural regions.

Toowoomba enjoys a unique position on the crest of the Great Dividing Range 800 metres above sea level and has the reputation of the Garden City of Australia with a wonderful lifestyle.

The city services a surrounding population of approximately 250,000 people and is a major centre for agricultural and medical services with five hospitals and more that 100 doctors and specialists in attendance.

Toowoomba is a major educational centre with its private schools well patronised by rural families and has a campus at the University of Southern Queensland. The Gatton Campus of the University of Southern Queensland is located approximately half an hour east of Toowoomba.

Toowoomba provides a combination of many retail, commercial and industrial businesses and is also a regional centre for many government departments. The City is serviced by Brisbane with a four-lane highway and rail link.

Toowoomba as a whole is set to enjoy further growth with a number of large infrastructure developments planned for the region over the coming years. The  second Great Dividing Range crossing is set to further increase Toowoomba’s ability to service South-East Queensland by creating a new, safer transport corridor into Brisbane and the North and South Coasts. In addition the Inland Rail Link joining Melbourne to Northern Queensland is set to pass close by to the industrial area of the city. Along with this the announcement by ATEC to build a new Inter-Modal transport hub just west of the city to take goods from rail to road, to then be distributed into Brisbane and the South East corner of Queensland is sure to increase the growth of the city.
